Police arrest suspect wanted in summer crime spree

A suspect wanted for arson, attempted murder and sexual assault since the summer has been arrested, police reported.

Police said patrol officers picked the man up without a struggle when a security guard at an apartment block on the 200 block of Dufferin Avenue reported a disturbance in the early morning hours Monday.

Officers who answered the call at 12:45 a.m. took the man into custody and realized he was wanted once his identity was confirmed.

After the summer attacks, there was no indication the man was active, Winnipeg Police Services spokesman Const. Jay Murray said.

“I don’t think we thought he was in town,” Murray said.

Both the attempted murder and arson were the result of a domestic dispute. On July 15, police first reported the suspect was wanted for a sexual assault.

Two weeks later, the same man was identified as a suspect in a serious arson at an apartment building in the 400

Police dog stops wanted gunman after four-hour crime spree

A wanted man meant to be in prison and high on ice has gone on a crime spree throughout south-east Queensland, breaking into homes and stealing cars until a police dog stopped him.

Police believe the man broke into multiple homes, fired a shot at a man and stole several cars in Mount Gravatt East, Redlands and Moreton Bay early yesterday.

About 12.20am, a resident who went to help the driver of a damaged Toyota Prado on Burmah Boulevard, Redland Bay, had a gun pulled on him.

The resident returned to his house and locked the door, before the gunman kicked in the door of a neighbouring home and confronted a 56-year-old man, demanding the keys to his car.

Police watchdog investigating arrest of man, woman wanted in ‘crime spree’

Ontario’s police watchdog is investigating the arrest of a man and woman accused in what police had called a crime spree across southern Ontario.

The Special Investigations Unit says the 24-year-old man was arrested with his partner, a 22-year-old woman, by York regional police outside a shopping mall in Vaughan, Ont., Friday.

Before the pair’s arrest, Niagara regional police said the couple was wanted by police services in several communities — including Halton Region, Brantford, Waterloo Region, Guelph and London — on charges ranging from vehicle and gas theft to shoplifting.

The SIU says that during the course of the man’s arrest, there was an “interaction” with police officers, and he was taken to hospital.

The agency says the man was transferred to Niagara Regional Police custody and then taken back to hospital, where it was determined that he had a serious injury.

The SIU is automatically called in to investigate reports of serious injury,
