Cold weather crime spree: 10 cars stolen in one day

Cincinnati police are warning drivers that a cold car is better than no car.

On Tuesday, 10 people reported that their cars were stolen while their keys were in the ignition. Of those cases, only two cars have been recovered.

“Quite a rash of those, and we just want to get the word out to the public. I know you want to keep your car warm. Please resist the temptation to do that because, really, you’re just setting yourself up to be a victim of a crime,” Lt. Steve Saunders said.

It’s a crime of opportunity, and crooks are looking for puffs of warm exhaust.

One woman left her car running in Western Hills, and within seconds of her getting out, a man hopped in the driver’s seat and took off. The woman’s 7-year-old grandson was inside the car.

He was not injured and the suspect dropped off

Police: NH man goes on multi-town crime spree, crashes stolen car into store

MANCHESTER, N.H. (WHDH) – A Brentwood, New Hampshire man is facing several charges after police said he started a multi-town crime spree by crashing a stolen car Tuesday morning before carjacking a mother and daughter from another car in Manchester.

Anthony Plourde, 22, is accused of stealing a car from a woman on Flaherty Lane around 9:15 a.m. as she was warming it up outside her house. The woman, 74-year-old Doreen Betts, told police he was wielding a wooden stake.

“I was in the gate, 2 feet, when this idiot flies around the corner, running like the dickens, flung the shovel in the parking area, jumped into my car, shoved it into reverse, shot off and off he went,” said Betts. She said she is now taking personal safety into her own hands and told 7News she is keeping a World War I bayonet with her at home.

A few minutes later, Manchester

Stolen Van Used For Crime Spree

GRANTS PASS, Ore.–A stolen van from a real estate office in Grants Pass has been found, over a month after it was reported stolen.

The real estate business used the van to help customers move free of charge.

After the van was stolen, it took a police chase to bring it back.

The van has been used by the public for the last seven years for moving purposes.

In late October it was stolen out of the parking lot of the realty office in downtown Grants Pass.

Owner of Realty Executives of Southern Oregon Chris Barnett says, “It was secure, but when people want something bad enough, they’ll take it.”

On Monday morning, a good Samaritan saw the van parked in front of a vacant house.
