Man pleads guilty but mentally ill to violent crime spree

KALAMAZOO, MI — A man accused of perpetuating a violent crime spree across Kalamazoo County has pleaded guilty but mentally ill.

Matthew Steppenwolf, 29, of Plainwell, pleaded guilty but mentally ill Thursday, Feb. 1 in Kalamazoo County Circuit Court to six felony charges: armed robbery, carjacking, second-degree arson, discharging a firearm at a building causing injury and two counts of felony firearm, according to court records.

In exchange for his plea, felony charges of ethnic intimidation, two counts of felony firearm and another count of second-degree arson were dismissed. 

In accordance with a plea agreement, Steppenwolf faces 17 to 32 years in prison when he is sentenced March 12, Kalamazoo County Chief Assistant Prosecutor Scott Brower said.

Man pleads guilty, insanity in 2017 Kzoo Co. crime spree

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — The suspect in a violent Kalamazoo County crime spree last year has pleaded guilty to several felony charges.

Matthew Steppenwolf pleaded guilty, but mentally insane to charges of armed robbery, second-degree arson, discharge of a firearm into a building causing injury, carjacking and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Richmond man pleads guilty to 6 felonies from 2016 crime spree – Palladium

RICHMOND, Ind. — A Richmond man who was part of an August 2016 crime spree that allegedly involved two others has reached a plea agreement that will sentence him to 15½ years in prison for crimes contained in three cases.

Rodney W. Blevins II, 20, of the 1500 block of South 11th Street will be sentenced at 2 p.m. Jan. 18 in Superior Court II. He pleaded guilty this month to six felonies and a misdemeanor. Judge Gregory Horn recorded the convictions, but sentencing was delayed for the Wayne County Probation Department to prepare a pre-sentence report.

Eugene crime spree suspect pleads guilty

EUGENE, Ore. – A suspect accused in a crime spree in Eugene has pleaded guilty.

Eli Johnson admitted to robbery and unauthorized use of a vehicle on Tuesday.

In February, police said Johnson, Dustin Fisher, Elaine Jeffers and Dakota Tucker robbed multiple people at knifepoint around Eugene for gas money.

Officers said one of them stabbed a woman, leaving her with life-threatening injuries.

All were charged as adults, even though three were minors.

Johnson will be sentenced in January.

Teen Pleads Not Guilty To Killing Doctor In Deadly Crime Spree

INDIANAPOLIS — An 18-year-old accused of murdering an Indianapolis doctor pleaded not guilty this week at his first court appearance since his Thursday arrest.

Ka’Ron Bickham-Hurst is charged with fatally shooting Indiana University doctor and teacher, Kevin Rodgers, who was found dead on Nov. 20 in his home on the city’s northwest side, according to U.S. News and World Report.

“Investigators say they believe the 61-year-old Rodgers walked in on a burglary and was shot in the head and stomach,” the story says, noting that Bickham-Hurst is also facing burglary and theft charges.
