Police: Man admits to killing woman in Austin crime spree – KCBD

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) – Police investigators in Austin say a 19-year-old man has confessed to the shooting death of a woman and injuring three others in a series of robbery attempts that began Christmas Day.

Police Lt. Jason Staniszewski said Friday that Xavier Lewis was wearing an ankle monitor due to a prior aggravated robbery charge and it implicated him in the latest crimes.

Lewis was arrested Thursday on charges that include capital murder.

Authorities say Lewis robbed four people on Christmas Day and shot two of them. They say he later took a woman’s car then struck a person with it, leaving that person in serious condition.

Staniszewski says 30-year-old Ebony Michelle Sheppard was shot Tuesday in an apparent robbery attempt. She later died at a hospital.

Online jail records don’t indicate an attorney for Lewis.

Hearings provide new details in crime spree, killing of woman – The Register

BEND — In the days following the death of Kaylee Sawyer in Bend last summer, suspected killer Edwin Lara confessed his involvement in her death to virtually everyone he encountered, according to a prosecutor, at one point saying he had an “urge to kill.”

That’s according to testimony given by a number of witnesses in court Monday. It was the first of five days of scheduled hearings to discuss the admissibility of evidence, specifically Lara’s apparent confession and the evidence that resulted from it.

Lara, 32, is charged with four counts of aggravated murder in the death of Sawyer, 23, on July 24. Deschutes County District Attorney John Hummel is seeking the death penalty.

Monday’s hearing centered on Lara’s alleged California crime spree after the death of Sawyer.

Still to be discussed is an apparent confession he gave to Bend police officers, and whether he

Young drifters admit killing tourist, yoga teacher in Calif. crime spree

SAN FRANCISCO — Two transients pleaded guilty Monday to murder in the deaths of a Canadian tourist who was camping in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park during a music festival and a yoga teacher walking his dog on a popular hiking trail.

As part of plea deals, Morrison Lampley, 24, agreed to a 100-year prison sentence and Lila Scott Alligood, 19, accepted a 50-year term after each pleaded guilty to two counts of first-degree murder, prosecutors said. A sentencing date has not yet been set.

Lampley will receive the harsher sentence because he pulled the trigger in both of the 2015 killings that occurred just two days apart, the Marin County district attorney’s office said.

A 16-year-old Long Island teen is accused of a killing two people during a crime spree that included 15 armed robberies, authorities say.

On his way to court Friday, Malique Shelton shook his head no to refute the allegations. But investigators say the high school sophomore pulled the trigger in two murders.

Shelton’s dad insisted his son did not kill anyone.

“I don’t believe he did it,” Shownne Hogan told NBC 4 New York outside his home in Roosevelt. “He told me he didn’t do it. I’m sticking by my son 100 percent.”

Police expect more arrests in the case.

The robberies
