Police watchdog investigating arrest of man, woman wanted in ‘crime spree’

Ontario’s police watchdog is investigating the arrest of a man and woman accused in what police had called a crime spree across southern Ontario.

The Special Investigations Unit says the 24-year-old man was arrested with his partner, a 22-year-old woman, by York regional police outside a shopping mall in Vaughan, Ont., Friday.

Before the pair’s arrest, Niagara regional police said the couple was wanted by police services in several communities — including Halton Region, Brantford, Waterloo Region, Guelph and London — on charges ranging from vehicle and gas theft to shoplifting.

The SIU says that during the course of the man’s arrest, there was an “interaction” with police officers, and he was taken to hospital.

The agency says the man was transferred to Niagara Regional Police custody and then taken back to hospital, where it was determined that he had a serious injury.

The SIU is automatically called in to investigate reports of serious injury,

Police Arrest Couple Wanted in Massive ‘Crime Spree’ | Halton …

A man and woman wanted in connection with a crime spree spanning across southern Ontario – including Halton – have been arrested, say Niagara police.

Kevin Stapleford-Francalanza, 24, and Rachel Hayden, 22 were wanted by several police services – such as Brantford, Waterloo, Guelph, and London – on a number of charges ranging from vehicle and gas theft to shoplifting.

They were handcuffed in “another jurisdiction” outside of Niagara on Sept. 29.

There were at least 25 interactions with the suspects from Aug. 18 to Sept. 26 — the most recent one in a Niagara-on-the-Lake parking lot.

That’s where the suspects allegedly damaged several police cruisers and civilian vehicles while attempting to evade arrest.

Police are thanking the public for their help.

Crime spree arrest in Scioto County linked to crimes in multiple states, heroin transportation

Two people were arrested in Scioto County in connection with a crime spree in Wheelersburg last week.

Zachary Deming, 24, from Detroit Michigan, and Courtney Skyles, 21, from Beauty, Kentucky were taken into custody according to Scioto County Sheriff Marty V. Donini.

Captain John Murphy said detectives recovered stolen property that was linked to several other states and have reached out to agencies which will result in more charges on the suspects. During the investigation, detectives learned Deming and Skyles were transporting large amounts of heroin from Michigan to Kentucky passing through Scioto County.

Donini said the two were targeting very nice neighborhoods, including gated communities. The suspects used a window punch tool to gain entry into vehicles as well as getting into unlocked vehicles. Detectives gathered information that the suspects would search reality sites to find the neighborhoods. The vehicle used in the crime spree was a black Nissan Maxima with
